What You Should Not Do When Filing An Insurance Claim?

When you file an insurance claim there are specific things you should not do. If you have any questions regarding filling out an insurance claim you should talk with a car accident attorney in your state to ensure you fill out the paperwork properly and that you do not do anything that might stop you from ensuring your rights are violated.
  • Do not give any written statement or recorded statement to your insurance or the other insurance company until you have read and understood your coverage.
  • Do not accept the estimate or appraisal for your losses. Many times insurance companies will try to get you to take less than the amount you need to repair or replace the damages.
  • Do not sign any type of waiver until you talk with an experienced car accident attorney. You may sign away your rights and not receive the compensation you deserve under the laws in your state.
  • Do not cash or accept a check that has “final payment” written on the check until you have discussed this with an attorney and are ready to accept the final payment.
  • Do not ignore any time specifications or time limits in your policy. In most cases, all policies have a time limit and you must file a claim within the time allotted.
  • Do not forget that your insurance policy is a contract and you have the right to receive compensation as written in your policy. Make sure you consult a qualified car accident attorney before signing any papers or making any decisions regarding your insurance claim.
